Multi-Active/Passive-IRS Enabled Wireless Information and Power Transfer: Active IRS Deployment and Performance Analysis

Intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs), active and/or passive, can be densely deployed in complex environments to significantly enhance wireless network coverage for both information transfer (WIT) and power (WPT). In this letter, we study the downlink WIT/WPT from a multi-antenna base station single-antenna user over multi-active/passive IRS (AIRS/PIRS)-enabled link. particular, derive location of AIRS with those other PIRSs being fixed maximize received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) signal at cases WIT WPT, respectively. The derived solutions reveal that optimal deployment is generally different versus WPT due roles AIRS-induced amplification noise. Furthermore, analytical numerical results are provided show conditions under which proposed strategy yields superior performance baseline strategies as well conventional all-PIRS enabled WIT/WPT.
